All State Parks Lifeguards receive extensive training in lifeguard rescue techniques, CPR/first aid, and AED. Folsom Lake lifeguards receive additional training in vessel operation, swift water rescue and advanced medical skills. The following beaches are staffed with lifeguards during the summer season: Granite Bay Main Beach, Beals Point, Black Miners Bar and Nimbus Flats. Lifeguards regularly patrol Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma on patrol vessels and PWCs.

Potential Lifeguard candidates must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid California driver license by date of appointment.
2026 Tryouts will be held at Folsom Lake at Granite Bay at 10am at on the following dates:
Saturday April 25, 2026
Saturday, May 16, 2026
