Program Information
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2026 Refugio Junior Lifeguard Program! We can't wait for the summer of '27!
Learn lifeguard and ocean safety skills, build confidence, and develop camaraderie with your fellow JGs.
Our program teaches quality water safety education. Each instructor is a highly-trained, professional California State Park Lifeguard, all of whom are passionate about working with youth in a safe, fun, and team-centered environment. Each instructor helps participants develop their swimming, bodysurfing, paddling, rescue, and first-aid skills. JGs learn how to care for their local environment and to be guardians of the Gaviota coastline and its diverse marine and terrestrial inhabitants. Refugio JG's believe in respect, overcoming challenges, building self-confidence, having pride in their accomplishments, and supporting and cheering for their fellow teammates. We are honored and proud to have served our local community for the past 30 years, since 1994!
Due to high demand and limited spaces, it is recommended to register early!
Registration for the 2027 Refugio Junior Lifeguard Program will open March 28th at 8AM!

2026 Saturday Sessions Program Information
Saturday Sessions is a new program that will run from 10AM to 3PM on Saturdays from September 12th to October 31st!
This program is designed to augment the Refugio Junior Lifeguard experience by offering your JG an opportunity to continue to increase their ocean confidence and improve their lifesaving skills in a smaller group.
With the forecasted El Nino this winter, September and October will be ideal months to be in the water; refining ocean recreation techniques and increasing comfortability in the ocean environment. Parents will also be given the opportunity to participate in a JG Vitamin (daily workouts; they’re called a vitamin because you don’t want to take them but they’re good for you).
Fees
Session 1 & 2:
$400 first family member - $380 additional family members
Competition Week:
$175 first family member - $150 additional family members
Saturday Sessions:
Per Day | $40 first family member - $35 additional family members
8 Saturday Package | $300 first family member - $280 additional family members
Parents | $10 per vitamin - $70 for the 8 Saturday package
