Doheny State Beach
The Park is currently OPEN.
Please check the hours of operation.4TH OF JULY WEEKEND:
- Get to the Beach Early!
- Expect long entry lines. Due to large, anticipated 4th of July crowds, Doheny SB parking lots will likely reach full capacity early on that day. If you leave, there is no guarantee of re-entry. This will apply to any visitors as well. The only exception will be those checking in on the 4th of July. You will be able to walk into the park, but there will be no parking availability.
- Parking Fees May Vary
- Holiday rates will apply at many of our State Beaches for the 4th of July weekend. Please prepare accordingly!
- Check in with a Lifeguard!
- Learn about the day’s ocean conditions BEFORE you go into the water by checking in with a lifeguard! Know your limits, and it is always recommended to swim near an open lifeguard tower. If you have any first aid needs, they are here for you!
- Drink Water and Wear Sunscreen!
- Avoid heat related illnesses by staying hydrated and reapplying your sunscreen often.
- Be Responsible
- No fireworks, alcohol, or glass containers allowed. Please throw away your trash in trash bins. Do not over-stuff trash bins if possible. Do not collect shells, rocks, plants or animals. Our wildlife thanks you!
- No Makeshift Fire Pits!
- If you plan to have a bonfire, please do so in the California State Parks designated bonfire pits. Unless reserved with a picnic area, all fire rings are first come, first served so plan accordingly!
- Please Leave your Pets at Home
- For the safety of your pets and our wildlife, we kindly ask that you do not bring your pets onto the sand/beach or anywhere where signage states dogs are not permitted. We thank you for your cooperation!
- Have Fun!
- We hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend with friends and family. Thank you for visiting your local state beaches!
Doheny State Beach is located in the city of Dana Point, California and is one of California's most popular state beaches and attracts almost one million visitors per year. Doheny has a day use surfing beach at its northern end and a five-acre lawn with picnic facilities and volleyball courts.
The southern end of the state beach has campgrounds, with some of the campsites only steps away from the beach. The state beach has tide pools and a visitor center with several aquariums. Surf fishing is also popular among visitors.
The beach property was donated by oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny for public use in 1931 and was California's first state beach. It was officially named Doheny State Beach in 1963.
