Special Walks/Private Hikes

Any organized business or corporate group of 20 people or more who will be hiking or visiting the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve are required to apply for a docent guided hike. You can arrange for a customized fee-based Docent-guided hike (Special Walk) for a group up to 70 people. To arrange for a Special Walk or to schedule any other group event, please contact torrey.pines@parks.ca.gov at least three weeks prior to your visit to make your reservation.

Group size: No more than 70, split into groups of 10 or less on trails.

Days/Times offered: Year-round; however, no groups will be scheduled on holidays or holiday weekends.

Fees: Will vary depending on group size. Parking is not included with permit.

 Self-guided Group Hikes (15+ people): 

In-advance reservations are required to visit the park at least 15 days before the proposed date. These groups hike independently under the direction of their leaders and are expected to acquaint themselves with the Reserve’s rules before the trip. The length of this program is open-ended, Monday-Friday only, with a preferred start time in the afternoon to avoid conflict with the younger school groups. Maximum # of hikers: 70

Reservation requests can be made through the TPSNR Group Reservation Request form and sent to the Torrey Pines email address: torrey.pines@parks.ca.gov

The $25 fee can be paid by check or through PayPal listed on the request form. The fee covers administration costs and, as a courtesy, includes parking. Approved groups will receive parking pass(es) at the entrance kiosk.

APPLICANT INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Submit Google form "Request for Parks Availability form, which can be found here

2. Request forms for simple events will not be considered with less than 45 days’ notice from the event date; complex events require a minimum of 90 days’ notice.

3. San Diego Coast District staff member will get in contact with you to begin the permitting process.

4. Complete the reservation documents including the non-refundable permit fee payment and terms and conditions agreement. State Parks will then forward a special event permit application and any additional requirements to be completed by you and submitted by the 30-day deadline.

5. Special event permits are not approved/confirmed until all documents (including insurance and outside vendor contracts) are submitted and final fees are paid in full.
