Volunteering
Volunteer
Do you enjoy nature and being outdoors? Do you want to share knowledge with others and promote conservation and stewardship? This is your opportunity to join our team of dedicated volunteers who rove the trails, interact with visitors, host at the staging area and in general contribute to the inspiration, education and enjoyment of park visitors. California State Parks depends on volunteers to help as:
- Docents: Learn about the magnificent old-growth redwoods and Big Basin’s amazing recovery after the 2020 CZU Lighting Complex Fire, then share your knowledge with the public. For more information, email bigbasin@ports-ca.us.
- Volunteers: Apply to join our team of volunteers and spend time participating in workdays like fuel reduction efforts, pulling non-native plants, removing trash from waterbodies, and more. Email bigbasin@ports-ca.us to learn more.
- Trail Crew: The Big Basin Volunteer Trail Crew makes it possible for others to safely enjoy the beauty of the park by assisting with trail restoration and maintenance. For more information, visit www.bbvtc.org.
For information about volunteering and to apply at other state parks in the Santa Cruz District or across the state, visit our Volunteer Portal.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park hosts an annual Volunteer Training Program every Spring. If you click the link above ("Volunteer Portal") and filter for Big Basin, your application will be sent to park staff; they will reach out closer to the annual training start date to begin necessary processes.
Get Involved
Visit the park. If you’ll be coming to Big Basin Redwoods State Park or other California state parks frequently, buy a state parks pass—an excellent way to save money and support state parks.
Support nonprofit groups working on behalf of this park, including Mountain Parks Foundation, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, Sempervirens Fund, and Save the Redwoods League.
