Senior Discounts and Passes

 

 

In an effort to protect public health and safety

as the state responds to the spread of novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19,

the California State Parks Pass Sales Office in Sacramento, California

is temporarily closed to the public as of Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

 

Annual Passes may be still be purchased by visiting the 

California State Parks Store or use the Contact Us option.  

  

We continue to accept Discount Pass applications by mail.  

You can mail your Discount Pass applications attention to:

Park Pass Sales Office, PO Box 942896, Sacramento, CA 94296

Applications will not be accepted via email or fax.  


Update (February 1, 2021): The current wide spread of Covid-19 has affected field offices and has caused an exponential increase in the number of mail-in applications to the Park Pass Sales Office. This has affected the processing times for the following pass programs:

  • 2021 Limited Use Golden Bear Pass Program
  • 2021 Golden Bear Pass Program
  • Disabled Discount Pass Program
  • Distinguished Veteran Pass Program

Please be aware that processing times will be delayed for those who mailed applications after December 14, 2020. If you mailed in an application and choose to apply in person instead, or if you have any questions, please contact us at parkpassinfo@parks.ca.gov. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.


SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT

For persons 62 years of age or older. Proof of age based on valid state-issued driver license or other suitable photo identification. Permits year-round $1.00 discount for vehicle day use and a $2.00 discount for family camping in most California State Park operated units regardless of income status without the need to purchase any pass.

The discount does not apply to fees under $2.00 or oversize vehicle fees, extra vehicle fees and is not valid at units operated by local government, private agencies or concessionaires. It is not valid for per-person entry or tour fees (such as museums), special events, group sites, commercial use, or for supplemental fees and cannot be used in conjunction with any other pass and/or discount.


GOLDEN BEAR PASS - $5.00
Calendar Year (January - December)

Golden Bear Sample Pass ImageUnder the law, any qualifying person receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) [CA State Welfare and Institutions Code Section 12200]; any person receiving aid under the CalWORKS Program; or any person 62 years of age or older with income limitations specified on the current application form is eligible to receive the Golden Bear Pass.

The pass must be renewed each calendar year.  Entitles the bearer and spouse or registered domestic partner entry to most California State Park operated units where vehicle day use fees are collected at no charge.  The pass is not valid at units operated by local government, private agencies or concessionaires. It is not valid for per-person entry or tour fees (such as museums), boat use, camping,  group use or sites, special events, commercial use, additional/extra vehicle fees, or for supplemental fees and cannot be used in conjunction with any other pass and/or discount. Admittance and use subject to available space.

The Park Pass Office location (only) will begin processing mail-in applications starting December 14, 2020 in date order. Please note, issued 2021 Golden Bear Passes will be mailed to pass holders starting Monday, December 14, 2020 in order of date received. Please be aware that passes will not be valid until January 1, 2021. 

2021 Golden Bear Passes (Valid January 1, 2021-December 31, 2021) will be issued starting Monday, December 14, 2020 at designated locations, with a reminder that these passes are not valid until January 1, 2021.

Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing. Once pass is received, you may use passcard for applicable benefits. The pass holder is required to present the Golden Bear Pass and a valid California Driver License or other suitable photo identification and to pay any supplemental fees at the park.

LIMITED USE GOLDEN BEAR PASS - $20.00
Calendar Year (Jan-Dec) / Non-Peak Season

Limited Use Golden Bear Persons 62 years of age or older are eligible to receive the Limited Use Golden Bear Pass.  The pass entitles the holder and spouse or registered domestic partner entry to most California State Park operated units during non-peak season where vehicle day use fees are collected at no charge.

The pass must be renewed each calendar year.  It is not valid for use during the peak season from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day at most state parks, and the Friday before Labor Day through Memorial Day at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Picacho State Recreation Area and Salton Sea State Recreation Area.  The pass is not valid at units operated by local government, private agencies or concessionaires. It is not valid for per-person entry or tour fees (such as museums), boat use, camping, group use or sites, special events, commercial use, oversized vehicle fees, additional/extra vehicle fees, or for supplemental fees and cannot be used in conjunction with any other pass and/or discount.  Admittance and use subject to available space. ANNUAL PASS EXTENSIONS

The State of California recognizes the benefits of the outdoors during this challenging and unprecedented time of COVID-19. Protecting all Californians from the risk of exposure to COVID-19 has been a constant and important effort. State Parks thanks all who purchased our annual passes last year and have not been able to use them during the last three months due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic and its statewide impact. The department is extending  annual passes for three (3) months to those pass holders that meet the below criteria.

 

Annual Pass Expired or will Expire: Extension through:
Expired March 1, 2020 - June 30, 2020 September 30, 2020
Expires July 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021 +3 months

 

 

 

 

 

This extension applies to the following annual passes:

California Explorer Vehicle Day Use Annual Pass (Hangtag)
Golden Poppy Vehicle Day Use Annual Pass (Hangtag)
Tahoe Regional Vehicle Day Use Annual Pass (Hangtag)
Historian Passport Day Use Annual Pass (Wallet Card)
Boat Use Annual Pass (Hangtag or Sticker)
Oversized Vehicle Pass (Hangtag or Sticker)
Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Vehicle Day Use Annual Pass (Hangtag)
Limited Use Golden Bear Pass

All other terms and conditions of your will pass remain in effect.

Update (Jan. 28, 2021) – State Parks is reopening campground sites for existing reservation holders. The department will be using a phased approach to reopen other campground sites for new reservations, starting January 28. The public is advised that not all campground sites will reopen to the public and group campsites remain closed. Day use outdoor areas of park units currently open to the public remain open. It is critical for all to recreate responsibly in the outdoors as the pandemic is far from over. Lastly, all visitors are strongly encouraged to protect themselves and their loved ones by properly planning their outdoor experience. Learn more at www.parks.ca.gov/FlattenTheCurve.
