Welcome to Wildwood Canyon
Wildwood Canyon State Park (855 acres) preserves a remarkable remnant of the original San Bernardino foothills and high desert ecosystem, serving as a vital refuge for wildlife including mule deer, bobcats, black bears, mountain lions, and coyotes. The property also holds deep historical significance as a former crossroads for indigenous peoples and later a ranching settlement. Remnants of historic ranch buildings still stand, offering a tangible connection to the region's agricultural past. Despite its relatively compact size, Wildwood Canyon offers an invaluable, peaceful escape — blending rich biodiversity, profound history, and timeless natural beauty that transports visitors to a quieter era in the Yucaipa Valley.
Announcement
California State Parks Announces Formal Classification and Naming of Wildwood Canyon State Park
On December 17, 2025, the California State Park and Recreation Commission voted to officially classify and name the property previously known as Wildwood Canyon Park Property as Wildwood Canyon State Park. This 855-acre unit, located in San Bernardino County, has been part of the State Park System since its acquisition in 2002 and has welcomed day-use visitors since 2003.
The proposed Declaration of Purpose for Wildwood Canyon State Park is as follows:
"Wildwood Canyon State Park is dedicated to providing high-quality outdoor recreational and educational experiences while preserving its diverse natural, cultural, and aesthetic resources. The park will conserve its oak and grassland environment, interpret its ranching history, and respect tribal resources, ensuring these qualities are available for future generations."
With the classification now complete, the next phase involves developing a cornerstone document to guide future management and planning. This process is expected to be finalized within a one-year timeframe. California State Parks is committed to collaborating with the public, California Native American tribes, local stakeholders, and community groups—such as the Supporters of Wildwood Canyon State Park—to ensure the park remains a cherished, accessible, and sustainably managed destination for all visitors.
