California State Parks Initiates Classification of Wildwood Canyon Park Property
SACRAMENTO — California State Parks today announced its intent to classify and name an 855-acre site in San Bernardino County currently known as the Wildwood Canyon Park Property. The classification will guide future planning for the property, including recreation use, and the management of its cultural and natural resources.
Wildwood Canyon Park Property is one of California’s natural gems, located approximately 75 miles east of Los Angeles and 25 miles east of San Bernardino and Riverside. It is currently open for day use and has welcomed hikers, equestrians and bicyclists since 2003. The property offers scenic views of the surrounding valleys with a variety of native plants species such as scrub oaks, manzanita, yucca and chamise. It is also home to a diverse wildlife such as mountain lions, red-diamond rattlesnakes, mule, black-tailed jackrabbit and over 100 species of birds may be found throughout the year as the property is located in the migratory mega-route – the Pacific Flyway.
“We are excited to begin gathering input from the community to classify and name this property,” said California State Parks Inland Empire District Superintendent Kelly Elliott. “We look forward to hearing from the community about what they want to see at their park and welcome all voices to help shape this natural wonder that serves both current visitors and future generations.”
Details of the first public meeting are below:
Date: June 16, 2025
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Yucaipa Community Center Banquet Room
34900 Oak Glen Rd., Yucaipa, CA 92399.
The classification process is expected to be completed within one year. State Parks looks forward to working in partnership with the public, California Native American tribes, and other stakeholders to ensure the park remains a cherished and accessible destination for all visitors.
