California State Parks Reopens Application Period for State Park Peace Officer Cadet Exams

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks has reopened the application period for the State Park Peace Officer Cadet exams. The department invites individuals to “Live the Parks Life” as rangers or lifeguards in the nation’s largest state park system. The new deadline to apply is Monday, July 31, 2023. Cadet academy graduates can serve the state as rangers and lifeguards to safeguard both visitors and the historical, cultural and natural resources found in 280 state park units. Offices are located near beaches or waterways, or in deserts, parks, museums, historic parks and state vehicular recreation areas.

Major Sand Replenishment Project Underway at Doheny State Beach and Capistrano Beach Park

DANA POINT, Calif., — California State Parks, in partnership with County of Orange and the city of Dana Point, announced today a major sand replenishment project for the south day-use area of Doheny State Beach (SB) and neighboring Capistrano Beach Park. Large storm events coupled with shrinking inputs of sand from local creeks and bluffs have led to narrower, mostly cobble beaches. The project will replenish south Doheny and Capistrano beaches with up to 45,000 cubic yards of sand and serve to offset the coastal erosion that has resulted from large surf, coastal development, and climate change.

D.L. Bliss State Park Closed for Summer 2023 For Replacement of Waterline

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.— California State Parks is reminding the public that D.L. Bliss State Park is closed for the summer of 2023 to replace the main waterline in the park. Effective immediately, the campground and day-use areas of the park will be closed to visitors and no services will be provided. The closure is anticipated to last throughout the summer, depending on weather or other unknown conditions that may arise. The D.L. Bliss State Park website will be updated with the latest information.

California Indian Heritage Center Hosts Neighborhood Workshop for the West Sacramento Community to Gather Input on the Design and Program of Future Heritage Center

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Indian Heritage Center (CIHC) announced today an upcoming neighborhood workshop for the West Sacramento community. Spring is an Active Time for Tahoe Bear Cubs and Yearlings

Yearlings, which were born last year, are also on the move. Some are still with their mother bears, some are solo after separating before denning, and some may be showing signs of disease.

Boating Season Kicks Off With National Safe Boating Week May 20–26

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) kicks off the official boating season in California in coordination with National Safe Boating Week held May 20–26, 2023. DBW encourages all boaters and outdoor enthusiasts to brush up on boating safety skills and prepare for the boating season. This observance week is a global awareness effort that encourages boaters to make the most of their boating adventure by being responsible. One of the important safety measures to take while boating is wearing life jackets.
