Office of Historic Preservation Announces Start of the State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program

SACRAMENTO — California State Parks’ Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) announced today it will begin accepting applications for the State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program at 8 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2025. California property owners can apply for the credit to rehabilitate and maintain their historical buildings and qualified residences, retaining Californians’ link to the past while keeping historic buildings and homes relevant in the present and beyond.

Office of Historic Preservation Announces New California Maritime Heritage Grants Program

SACRAMENTO —The California Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) is excited to announce nearly $330,000 is available through a new grant program for the preservation and interpretation of California’s irreplaceable maritime heritage. OHP is now accepting applications for the grants, which are funded by the National Park Service (NPS) through the National Maritime Heritage Grants Program for the stewardship and preservation of historical and archaeological resources associated with the maritime history of California.

2023 Governor’s Historic Preservation Awards Honors Six Recipients for Preserving the State’s Diverse Heritage

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—From preserving cultural knowledge of tribes to using technology to make historic places accessible to all, California State Parks’ Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) honored six recipients with a Governor’s Historic Preservation Award. California State Historical Resources Commission to Consider 14 Properties for Action at November 3 Meeting

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The California State Historical Resources Commission (Commission) will consider nine nominations, from a small schoolhouse in rural Sierra County to the world-famous Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, for federal historic designation; the removal of two properties from federal designation due to their destruction by wildfire; and three nominations for state historic designation.

Office of Historic Preservation Announces Federal Funding to Support Local Preservation Efforts in Six Cities

SACRAMENTO, Calif., — California State Parks’ Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) today announced $240,000 in federal grants to support local preservation efforts in six cities -- Carmel, Los Angeles, Pomona, Riverside, Sacramento, and Santa Barbara. Through the Certified Local Government (CLG) program, and a partnership among local governments, OHP and the National Park Service, the cities will use $40,000 each to develop historic context statements, accessory dwelling unit design guidelines or archaeological resources planning guidelines.
