Division of Boating and Waterways Offering Grants for Quagga and Zebra Mussel Infestation Prevention Programs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) today announced the availability of grant funding to prevent the further spread of quagga and zebra mussels into California’s waterways. Funded by the California Mussel Fee Sticker (also known as the Quagga Sticker), the Quagga and Zebra Mussel (QZ) Infestation Prevention Grant Program expects to award a total of up to $2 million across eligible applicants. Applications will be accepted from Monday, April 1 through Friday, May 10, 2024.All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on May 10, 2024.

Division of Boating and Waterways Set to Control Aquatic Invasive Plants in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

SACRAMENTO, Calif.– California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) today announced plans to control aquatic invasive plants in the west coast’s largest estuary, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its southern tributaries. Starting March 6 through Nov. 30, 2024, DBW crews will begin herbicide treatments on water hyacinth, South American spongeplant, Uruguay water primrose, Alligator weed, Brazilian waterweed, curlyleaf pondweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, coontail, ribbon weed, and fanwort in the Delta. Depending on weather conditionsand plantgrowth/movement, treatment dates may change. Select areas of the Delta with high infestations or coverage of water hyacinth will be controlled using mechanical harvesting efforts through December 2024.

Division of Boating and Waterways Offers Floating Restroom Grants to Help Keep California’s Waterways Clean

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is accepting grant applications from government agencies for the purchase and deployment of floating restrooms on California’s waterways with limited landside access. A million in federal and state funding is available for approximately four Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant floating restrooms. Interested applicants to the Floating Restroom Grant Program are encouraged to review the grant guidelines and submit a grant application to DBW by 5 p.m. PST, Monday, Nov. 13, 2023.

Division of Boating and Waterways Provides $18.8 Million in Grants to Keep California’s Waterways Clean and Safe

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways(DBW) has awarded $18.8 million to public entities to provide clean and safe waterways for California’s recreational community. Funding will be used to prevent the further spread of quagga and zebra mussels in freshwater bodies, discourage the illegal disposal of unwanted vessels and purchase search-and-rescue equipment for law enforcement entities.

Division of Boating and Waterways Now Accepting Grant Applications for Boating Infrastructure from Marina Operators

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting applications from public and private marina owners for federal Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG) for 2024. A total of $18 million is available for BIG projects nationally and the grants can fund up to 75% of total project costs, with a maximum available grant award of $1.5 million. SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications for the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) Education and Outreach Grant Program. A maximum of $276,937 federal funding per targeted region is available to organizations for educating coastal and San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary recreational boaters about proper vessel sewage disposal and the use of pumpout facilities and monitoring pumpout and dump stations.

Division of Boating and Waterways Encourages Boaters to Boat Sober this Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) reminds recreational boaters to avoid alcohol this Fourth of July holiday weekend, a time known for increased boaters on the waters where alcohol use is prevalent, as are subsequent boating incidents and fatalities. To combat impaired boating, law enforcement agencies across the country are intensifying their efforts July 1-3 as part of Operation Dry Water. In California, more than 44 law enforcement entities across California will increase patrols and/or carry out BUI checkpoints.
