STATE PARKS WEEK: Morning Bird Walk

Happy State Parks Week! Register for this event and many other others at the following link: https://castateparksweek.org/event-details/#morning-bird-walk-at-angel-island-sp-3100

Join this unique morning trip to enjoy the birds of Angel Island State Park! We’ll take the State Park boat to arrive before the general public. Expect to see and hear a wide variety of Bay Area birds including woodpeckers, flycatchers, raptors, and more. Birders of all abilities are welcome, and everyone can help spot, discuss, and enjoy the birds we observe. For a sneak peek at some of the species we might encounter, check out Common Birds of Angel Island State Park.

We'll walk about 1.5 miles at a slow pace. Note that the trail is only partially paved, and includes dirt sections with uneven surfaces and some moderately steep sections including uneven stairs. Dress in layers for island weather which may vary from cold and wet to quite warm in just a few hours. Bring a water bottle, close-toed shoes, snack, sunscreen, and binoculars if you have them; we’ll also have a few binoculars to loan.

Directions:
Meet at 8:15am in Tiburon at the Edward Zelinsky Landing located behind 1 Main St., Tiburon, CA. A dark blue sign with a clock over a gate will read “Bon Voyage”.
Be sure to allow plenty of time for parking and finding the meeting location. Boarding will close at 8:25, and the boat will leave the dock at 8:30am sharp.

The best parking option is at the CVS parking lot, located at 1599 Tiburon Blvd. It takes about ten minutes to walk from the parking lot to the docks. Parking in the north part of the lot costs $5 per day and instructions for payment are at a white post with a mailbox.

The bird walk will end at 11am on Angel Island. Participants may return to Tiburon on the Angel Island Tiburon Ferry at 11:20 am, 1:20 pm, or 3:20 pm. Purchase a one-way ticket at: https://angelislandferry.com/
