Overview

Located in the middle of the Anderson Valley wine district, Hendy Woods State Park is warmer and less foggy than redwood parks along the coast. The park is located on one of the scenic by-ways, the Greenwood Road, or State Highway 128, just southeast of its junction of with Highway 101. Camping

Azalea Campground: Four campsites (#5, #37, #40 and #41) dispersed in this campground loop are generally accessible. Activity areas are paved and include accessible picnic tables and fire circles. Tent areas may be small. Restrooms with showers near site 5 and site 17 are usable. Path of travel from each site is about 600 feet.

Wildcat Campground: Puma, a one room cabin in this campground loop, is generally accessible. It is ramped, though some assistance may be needed at door threshold. The cabin contains two bunks, a small table and two chairs, and is heated by a wood stove. Wood is for sale at the park. Water is available nearby. Generally accessible restrooms with showers are close by in this loop, near site 49. Route of travel to restrooms may have some sloped areas that could require help. Trails

The All Access Trail is an ‘out-and-back accessible trail that is 0.28 miles each way. The trail begins the redwood hiking experience at the day use parking area, which is found at the end of the main park road. The surface is compacted soil. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with one section for 24 feet at 6% slope. Be sure to pick up the Discovery Trail Self-Guided Walk brochure to enhance your experience. At about 800-feet the Discovery Loop Trail will intersect this trail. Accessible parking, picnic area, and restrooms are located at the trailhead.

The Discovery Loop Trail is a 0.43 mile accessible loop trail. The trail takes visitors deeper into Big Hendy Grove traversing over natural surface trail, bridges, and boardwalks. Visitors will experience some of the finest old growth Coast Redwood forest in Northern California. This trail loops back to the All Access Trail and the day use area. The surface is compacted soil and wood. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with intermittent sections between 5% to 8%.

The Upper Loop Trail is a 0.67 mile accessible loop trail. Visitors interested in a longer hike can take the Upper Loop Trail even further into Big Hendy Grove. This trail loops back to the Discovery Loop Trail. The surface is compacted soil. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with one section for 26 feet at 7% slope.
