Park History
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park interprets San Diego's history between 1821, when Mexico gained their independence from Spain, until 1872, when a large fire ripped through Old Town and many people moved to what was then called New Town, now called Downtown San Diego.
However, lots of interesting things happened in Old Town San Diego outside of that time period. This is where you can find fascinating historical documents that tell about the many things that happened in Old Town during the 20th century and beyond.
You can also find behind the scenes info about how the park was formed and even some records about how buildings in the park have been renovated and reconstructed to look like they used to in the 1800s.
