Division of Boating and Waterways to Begin Annual Control Efforts for Aquatic Invasive Plants in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

SACRAMENTO – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) announced today its plans for this year’s control efforts for invasive aquatic plants in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and its southern tributaries (Delta). Starting March 19, DBW will start herbicide treatments on water hyacinth, South American spongeplant, Uruguay water primrose, Alligator weed, Brazilian waterweed, curlyleaf pondweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, coontail, fanwort and ribbon weed in the Delta. Treatment start dates may change depending on weather conditions and plant growth or movement.

First Cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Northern Elephant Seals Confirmed in California

SAN MATEO COUNTY - Cases at Año Nuevo State Park Mark State’s First Detection of the Disease in a Marine Mammal. California State Parks Acquires 153-Acre NoraBella property from Sempervirens Fund, Permanently Expanding Big Basin Redwoods State Park

BOULDER CREEK—Today, California State Parks and Sempervirens Fund, California’s first redwoods conservation land trust, announced the permanent addition of the 153-acre NoraBella property to expand Big Basin Redwoods State Park in Boulder Creek. The $2.415 million acquisition is the first for Big Basin since State Parks acquired the Little Basin property from Sempervirens Fund and the Peninsula Open Space Trust in 2011.
