TEHACHAPI — Spend one of your next three Saturdays with California State Parks on a unique journey through a historic Native American village site nestled in the Tehachapi Mountains. On Oct. 3, 10 and 17, guided tours at Tomo-Kahni State Historic Park will give visitors the opportunity to explore ancient rock art and immerse themselves in the history, sacred lore, and living culture of the Kawaiisu people.
SACRAMENTO —California State Parks wants to hear from the public for the next 30 days on a proposal to restore the traditional Mutsun placename tooyohtak (too-YOH-tahk) to Fremont Peak State Park in San Benito County. The proposed name, tooyohtak State Park, would honor the longstanding relationship between the Mutsun people and this culturally significant landscape.
SACRAMENTO — California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications from organizations that teach on-the-water boating safety education to the public. Up to $1.4 million in grants is available to local public agencies, nonprofit organizations and colleges/universities operating within California for the Aquatic Center Grant program. The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 30, at noon.
SACRAMENTO — More California fourth-grade families are gaining free access to the nation’s largest and most diverse state park system. Since Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom announced a new, simplified name and sign-up period for California State Parks’ Free Fourth Grade Pass, downloads have increased by 46% compared to the first six weeks it was offered in 2025.
