Bliss State Park will fully reopen to the public for camping and day use on May 21, 2026, following a multi-year waterline replacement project. The reopening marks an exciting milestone for park visitors and local residents eager to return to one of the Lake Tahoe basin’s most beloved parks. Camping reservations for bookings six months out will be available starting Nov. 21, 2025, on ReserveCalifornia.com.

Division of Boating and Waterways Offers Grants for Floating Restrooms to Help Keep California’s Waterways Clean

SACRAMENTO – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications from government agencies for the purchase and deployment of floating restrooms on lakes and reservoirs that have limited landside access. Federal and state funding totaling $1.2 million is available for approximately four ADA-compliant floating restrooms. Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit a grant application to DBW by noon (PST) Monday, Dec. 19.

UPDATE: Body of Missing Girl Recovered at Garrapata State Park

SACRAMENTO – The body of a girl who was swept into the ocean at Garrapata State Park on Nov. 14 was recovered by a volunteer diver at approximately 1:20 p.m. today about half a mile north of where she went missing, California State Parks and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced. Authorities had previously announced the girl’s father, 39-year-old Yuji Hu, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, had died after attempting to rescue his daughter in high-surf conditions. The child was initially reported to be 5 years old, but family members who arrived in the area have clarified she was 7.
