Division of Boating and Waterways Offers $4.25 Million in Grants to Enhance Public Safety and Protect California’s Waterways

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is now accepting grant applications to help local public entities enhance safety on California’s waterways, and protect them from abandoned and unwanted vessels. The application period for the competitive grant programs, Boating Safety and Enforcement Equipment (BSEE) and Surrendered and Abandoned Vessel Exchange (SAVE), is open from March 15 through April 30, 2021

California State Parks Invites the Public to Virtually Celebrate Chinese New Year of the Metal Ox

WEAVERVILLE, Calif. — History will come alive once again in Weaverville when a virtual Chinese New Year Celebration and Lion Dance will be presented on the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park. This virtual event is being offered on the California State Parks PORTS Home Learning Program as well as the Park’s Facebook page. The virtual celebration will be broadcast on the first day of the Lunar New Year - Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. from the oldest continuously used Chinese Taoist Temple in California known as the Cloud Forest Temple.

California Seeking Volunteers to Help Keep Waterways Clean

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California’s Boating Clean and Green Program is looking for individuals to become Dockwalkers to help keep the ocean, lakes and reservoirs clean. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, recreational boaters continue to recreate in California’s waterways. The need to share clean boating practices with the recreational community, while abiding to COVID-19 guidelines, remains important.

California State Parks Seeking Public Comment on New Program Aimed at Helping Underserved Communities Connect to the Outdoors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks is seeking public feedback on draft guidelines for $19 million in outdoor program grants to create new or expand access to outdoor programs in underserved communities. Input from the public will help State Parks establish a new grant program - the Outdoor Equity Grant Program - in support of providing equitable access to all Californians.

A Reminder to Recreate Responsibly During MLK Weekend and Amidst the Ongoing Pandemic

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks and the USDA Forest Service (Forest Service) invite Californians to do their part to ensure safe and healthy outdoor experiences during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend and amidst the ongoing pandemic. Simple actions such as staying local, planning ahead, and following social distancing guidelines, can increase the outdoor experience for everyone. Additionally, recreating responsibly helps ensure that expanded access to recreational facilities, services and opportunities continues -- day use areas of national forests and state parks currently open to the public remain open for the health and welfare of Californians.
