WEAVERVILLE, Calif.— California State Parks invites the public to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the “Temple of the Forest Beneath the Clouds” at Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park (SHP) on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Taoist temple, built in 1874, is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California. A traditional lion dance will be performed to help celebrate the anniversary.

WEAVERVILLE, Calif.— History will come alive when a traditional Chinese lion dance will be presented at the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park (SHP) to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. This free special event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, will take place in front of the “Temple of the Forest Beneath the Clouds,” a Taoist temple built in 1874 that is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California.

California State Parks Invites the Public to Virtually Celebrate Chinese New Year of the Metal Ox

WEAVERVILLE, Calif. — History will come alive once again in Weaverville when a virtual Chinese New Year Celebration and Lion Dance will be presented on the Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park. This virtual event is being offered on the California State Parks PORTS Home Learning Program as well as the Park’s Facebook page. The virtual celebration will be broadcast on the first day of the Lunar New Year - Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. from the oldest continuously used Chinese Taoist Temple in California known as the Cloud Forest Temple.
