Parks California Launches $5 Million Effort for Fire-Affected Los Angeles Area State Parks

SACRAMENTO – Parks California announced today the launch of a $5 million fundraising effort in support of California State Parks to reimagine, restore and reopen state parks affected by the January 2025 Los Angeles firestorm. The RENEW LA Fund seeks donor investments to accelerate State Parks’ ability to initiate fire recovery and resiliency planning for Will Rogers State Historic Park and Topanga State Park, both badly damaged in the Palisades Fire.

Celebrate Earth Day at State Parks with In-Person and Virtual Events

SACRAMENTO — Celebrate Earth Day this month with California State Parks at any of the 280 unique state parks. State Parks will host numerous Earth Day-themed events throughout April 19-27. They include in-person activities, such as guided nature walks, beach cleanups, interactive junior ranger programs and hands-on restoration projects, as well as virtual programming with a live dive broadcast exploring the hidden world of the ocean.

California State Parks Welcomes 32 New Peace Officers (Rangers and Lifeguards) at Graduation Ceremony

PARADISE —California State Parks celebrated the graduation of 32 cadets on Friday, April 11. These dedicated individuals completed eight months of rigorous training and are ready to “Live the Parks Life” as State Park Peace Officers, joining the nation's largest state park system. From the program's start on September 3, 2024, the cadets have shown unwavering commitment to protecting California’s natural and cultural treasures. Their journey exemplifies this year’s motto: “Water and Land, Together We Stand,” reflecting their dedication to safeguarding the state’s diverse landscapes and waterways for future generations.

California State Parks to Implement New Boat Launching Requirements for Golden Mussel Prevention at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine

FOLSOM – Effective Monday, April 14, 2025, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation will require all trailered or motorized vessels launching at Folsom Lake and Lake Clementine to participate in a vessel inspection/quarantine program to help prevent the spread of golden mussels. This highly invasive aquatic species was recently identified in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the first known occurrence of golden mussels in North America. Golden mussels pose a significant threat to the ecological health of all waters of the state, its water conveyance systems, infrastructure, and water quality.

These redwood ecosystem restoration programs bring much-needed revenue, quality jobs and critical environmental conservation benefits to the region, driving economic growth in an economically disadvantaged area of California.
