TIBURON, Calif. – California State Parks today announced it is accepting proposals for a 20-year operation contract of a ferry service from the city of Tiburon to Angel Island State Park. The winning bid will equip, operate and maintain a ferry service to safely carry and retrieve park visitors traveling to/from the island. Deadline to submit proposals is Tuesday, July 31, 2018 by 2 p.m.
Angel Island State Park, in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, offers spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin Headlands and Mount Diablo. The park is accessible by ferry service and private boat; island amenities include hiking and biking routes, overnight facilities, and extensive day-use facilities. Annually, the ferry service transports thousands of visitors to Angel Island State Park.
A copy of the request for proposal (RFP) for the 20-year operation contract is available for download from the California State Park’s website at www.parks.ca.gov/concessions. Proposals may be mailed or delivered in person and must be physically received no later than 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the California State Parks Operations Office, Room 1431, 1416 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
In an effort to inform interested parties on the contract requirements and proper submission of proposals, the department is holding a pre-proposal meeting next month on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 6:00 PM at the Del Mar Middle School, 105 Avenida Miraflores, Tiburon, CA 94920. We encourage all interested parties to attend.

In the last couple of years, California State Parks has implemented a number of transformative, system-wide changes such as expanding and enhancing access to parks to a broader range of visitors. Installing new cabins at state parks, including Angel Island, is one of the many ways the department is accomplishing this. Assurance of a long-term ferry service is needed to justify the capital investment of the future cabin concessionaire.
