In a new exhibit that debuts on Friday, March 20, 2015, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are proud to showcase the impressive award-winning photographs from the prestigious Center for Railroad Photography & Art’s 2014 John E. Gruber Creative Photography Awards Program. With a “Lasting Impressions” theme this year, nearly 400 modern day railroading photographs were submitted from ninety photographers located all over the world.

The Grand Prize in the Center’s 2014 Creative Photography Awards Program went to Eric Williams of Millburn, New Jersey, for a stunning night view of the Chicago elevated railway. Matthew Malkiewicz, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, received second place for a holiday card-like photograph of a steam train in the snow; third place went to Dennis Livesey of New York City, for three images representing the fascination of the city. In addition, one of the photographs recognized in the “Judges Also Liked” category comes from Cima, California (San Bernardino County), taken by Ken Kuehne of Las Vegas.

The photographs were judged by a panel of three individuals including Center founder John Gruber. The Center, a non-profit arts and education organization founded in 1997, is committed to interpreting the intersection of railroads, art, and culture with American history and life.

This special photography exhibit will remain on display at the California State Railroad Museum through March 20, 2016. In addition to being showcased in the special exhibit at the Railroad Museum, the winners and a selection of the award-winning photographs will be featured in the Spring 2015 issue of the Center’s Railroad Heritage journal and in the March 2015 issue of Railfan & Railroad magazine.
