Miner's Picnic

Celebrate the Hard Rock Mining Life at Miner’s Picnic!

On Saturday, August 23rd, participate in a treasured local tradition at Empire Mine State Historic Park! From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors are invited to enjoy a picnic lunch on the lush estate grounds, accompanied by live music and performances just like the original Miner’s Picnics over 100 years ago.

The event, which began in 1895 as a benefit for the families of deceased miners, will also have historic children’s games, hard rock mining activities to try your hand at, vintage Model-A cars, and docents in period attire demonstrating the mining equipment. The mine owner’s “cottage” mansion and clubhouse will be open with knowledgeable docents in attendance, and don't miss the Mine Disaster Rescue Reenactment!

The park opens at 10:00 a.m., and activities and entertainment begin at 11:00 a.m. Ice cream, pasties, hot dogs and more will be available for purchase, or bring your own lunch. Don’t forget the picnic banket!

Entrance fee is $5 per person; age 5 and under are free. Fourth graders and their families get in free with the California State Parks Adventure Pass (please obtain pass prior to arrival; visit www.parks.ca.gov/AdventurePass for information)
