Petaluma Adobe SHP
California State Parks Week @ Petaluma Adobe SHP
Celebrate California's 280 state parks through various online and in-person events!
Adobe Brickmaking | Friday, June 13th, 11 AM - 3 PM
Create adobe bricks by stepping into an adobe pit (not required for activity)! Park staff will be in the pit alongside visitors explaining the process of adobe brickmaking as well as historic and contemporary use. Park staff will guide participants into using their hands to move piles of adobe into a wooden frame. There will be space for visitors to store their shoes/socks and wash off.
Docent-Led Tours | Saturday, June 14th - Sunday, June 15th, 1 PM - 3 PM
Visitors are invited to learn the history of Mexican California ranchos on a guided tour around the largest privately owned adobe in the United States. Made from adobe brick and redwood, its design is typical of hispanic architecture. This structure is all that remains of Commandant General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo’s vast Rancho de Petaluma, once the largest and most prosperous private rancho in northern Mexican California.
