Overview
Malibu Lagoon State Beach is a scenic destination where Malibu Creek flows into the Pacific Ocean. This unique park is divided into two distinct areas: the Historic Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon. On the west side of the park, Malibu Lagoon features serene nature trails that offer stunning views of the lagoon and beach access. An accessible picnic area with four tables is located along the Malibu Lagoon Trail, approximately 500 linear feet from the trailhead. Accessible parking and an accessible portable restroom are located within the Malibu Lagoon parking lot.Trails
The Malibu Lagoon Trail is a popular ‘out-and-back’ accessible trail that is 0.46 miles each way that skirts the perimeter of the Malibu Lagoon, terminating at the state beach. The trail offers multiple locations for wildlife viewing and many interpretive panels that highlight the natural and cultural resources of the area. The surface is compacted soil and is usable year-round. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with one section for 101 feet at 6%. Exhibits/Programs
The Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum are located at 23200 Pacific Coast Highway, about 0.25-mile east of the Malibu Lagoon entrance. No public parking is available on the grounds of this National Historic Site. Vehicles displaying a valid DMV-issued Disabled Plate/Placard are permitted to drop off visitors with mobility disabilities on the grounds adjacent to the house. The nearest accessible parking is within the Surfrider Beach parking lot, just outside the entrance to the historic site.Adamson House: Entrance to this historic house is only available with a guided tour, which takes place Wednesday through Saturday, 11am-2pm. Tours run approximately every 45 minutes depending on volunteer availability and weather conditions. Access into the house is through an unpaved courtyard comprised of flagstone and turf. The main entrance of the house requires ascending two steps. A video virtual tour of the house is available in the museum. Malibu Lagoon Museum: The museum adjoins the Adamson House and contains a collection of exhibits featuring the history of Malibu. The museum entrance and exhibits within are accessible. The museum interior is generally accessible. Assistance may be needed on the sloped ramp into the lower room of the museum.
Public restrooms are within the converted garage near the entrance to the historic site, approximately 380 linear feet from the museum/house, via the decomposed granite driveway. Once inside, restroom doorways are narrow, but the restroom facilities are generally accessible.
