California State Parks and CAL FIRE Plan Prescribed Burn at Calaveras Big Trees State Park: Work expected to begin Thursday, November 12, 2020

California State Parks in cooperation with the California Department of Forestry and Fire protection (CAL FIRE) plan to conduct a prescribed burn Thursday, November 12, 2020, in Calaveras Big Trees State Park. This burn is part of the series of prescription burns planned for the park this year and will be dependent on weather conditions and resources.

Save the Redwoods League and California State Parks Launch New Digital Field Trip to Giant Sequoia Forest

Save the Redwoods League and California State Parks have launched a new digital field trip that explores the challenges, including wildfires, facing our giant sequoia forests. Giant sequoia, the largest living trees on Earth, are found only in California’s Sierra Nevada. Their massive size, singular beauty, and rarity have made them living icons of the natural world and subjects of global fascination. The new giant sequoia program will air live through the Parks Online Resources for Teachers and Students program (PORTS).
