The Angel Island State Park Junior Lifeguard Program is looking for candidates to fill the role of Youth Aide for the upcoming season.
Youth Aides will work both within a group of their peers, as well as assisting Junior Guard Instructors in daily operations. This great opportunity will be both physically and mentally challenging throughout the four-week Junior Lifeguard Program. Youth Aides will have the opportunity to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming a California State Lifeguard. This program is designed to inspire individuals to pursue employment as a CA State Lifeguard. Youth Aides will be prepared to try out to be a CA State Lifeguard in the future.
Youth Aides will receive training in intermediate CPR and first aid skills. Training will also focus on performing aquatic rescues.
The Youth Aide program is a great opportunity to gain leadership and training while assisting Lifeguard Instructors and Junior Lifeguards with the daily operation of the Angel Island State Park Junior Lifeguard Program. The Youth Aide is a paid employee.
Youth Aides Duties:
- Assist with the monitoring of aquatic events and providing support to participants.
- Aid Lifeguard Instructors with various program-related tasks.
- Receive training in First Aid and CPR.
- Receive training in California State Parks Lifeguard procedures.
- Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a California State Lifeguard.
Requirements:
- Minimum age of 15 yrs.
- Past Junior Lifeguard Experience preferred.
- Be available for all 20 program days.
Tryouts:
- 1000-yard swim in the SF Bay at Quarry Beach.
- 200-yd Run-400-yd Swim-200- yd Run (Run-Swim-Run) at Quarry Beach.
- Short question and answer after completing the physical events
Tryout Date And Time:
- Tryout: March 22, 2026 following transportation to Quarry Beach from Tiburon departing at 0830 hrs.
- Tryout for Summer 2027 may take place in Fall 2026.
- Parent/Guardian must sign waiver at dropoff in Tiburon for applicants to participate.
- Parents/Guardians and siblings/friends welcome to attend the tryout to support. Transportation to Quarry Beach provided. Return transportation to Ayala Cove is available but anyone wanting to leave prior to the 1700 hrs island departure for Tiburon will be responsible for their own return ferry trip.
