Frequently Asked Questions
Wildwood Canyon Park Property Classification

Classification provides an official designation for each park in the California State Park system per law (for example a State Park, State Recreation Area, State Historic Park, State Reserve, etc.) Wildwood Canyon Park Property was dedicated in 2003 but was never officially classified, despite signage and other indicators that show it as a State Park.

Why does Wildwood Canyon Park Property need to be classified?
The formal classification of Wildwood Canyon Park Property as a park unit within the California State Park system will provide an opportunity for funding and additional protection of recreation, cultural, and natural resources. Without classification, the property remains protected but lacks the full structured support needed to fully realize its potential as a unit of the California State Park system.
Will the classification affect how I use the park?
The classification will not affect or change how park goers currently access and use Wildwood Canyon Park Property or the facilities and activities available. The classification will balance preservation of outstanding natural and cultural features with opportunities for recreation and education, making it a haven for both nature and community engagement.

How can I be involved in the classification process?
You can participate in public engagement opportunities such as online surveys and public workshops. Information on these opportunities can be found on the project website. You can submit feedback to wildwoodcanyon@parks.ca.gov. Your input matters and be assured we are listening to the local community. Please consider joining the Supporters of Wildwood Canyon to stay even more connected and help shape the park’s future.
