Birding at Candlestick Point
Birding at Candlestick
Candlestick Point SRA is home to many birds year-round, including various species of raptors, songbirds, and water birds. The park is located along the Pacific Flyway, which means it is also an important overwintering location for a wide variety of water birds -- particularly diving ducks -- who migrate from Canada and Alaska to spend several months (typically late Oct-early March) in the relatively warm waters of the San Francisco Bay.
The list of species below is by no means an exhaustive list of birds we find here, but it offers a peek at a sampling of the birds you may see if you visit us. All photos taken by regular park visitor and birder Rodolfo Yabut (thank you!).
If you would like us to add photos you took at Candlestick of species we don't currently have pictured on this website, please send high resolution 1:1 photographs with the species name to Park Manager Lisa Whitmer at lisa.whitmer@parks.ca.gov
