Why is the end of the Malibu Pier closed?
The end of the pier is temporarily closed to allow for a thorough assessment of its condition after preliminary findings in mid-January 2025 showed some potential structural concerns. The assessment is a precautionary measure to help ensure the safety of all visitors. The rest of the pier remains open for the public to enjoy.

When will the end of the pier reopen?
The findings of the assessment are expected in the coming months and will help determine whether the end of the pier is safe to reopen or if repairs and/or partial closures are necessary. California State Parks will review the findings and evaluate the options for reopening the end of the pier.

Please continue to check this webpage or the Malibu Lagoon State Beach webpage and the Angeles District State Parks Facebook and Instagram pages for updates.

Will the businesses on the pier remain open?
The Malibu Farm Pier Café and the Surfshop/Souvenir Shop at the end of the pier are temporarily closed during this time. However, the Malibu Farm Restaurant at the Pier, located outside the closure area, remains open. Beach Rentals and beach equipment services are also available prior to entering the pier.

Can I still fish from the pier?
Visitors are welcome to fish from the open areas of the pier. Please observe posted guidelines for permitted fishing locations.

Is the closure related to recent weather events?
California State Parks typically assesses structures like this pier after extreme weather events to ensure visitor safety.

Where can I find updates?
Updates on the closure and reopening of the pier will be posted on this webpage, on the Malibu Lagoon State Beach webpage and on the Angeles District State Parks Facebook and Instagram pages.

What should I do if I have already made plans to visit the pier?
Visitors are encouraged to still enjoy the portions of the pier that remain open, as well as the surrounding beaches and attractions in the Malibu area. You can find other nearby state parks at parks.ca.gov/Find-A-Park.

Will this assessment lead to further closures of the pier?
Any decisions on further closures of the pier will depend on the findings of the assessment, and State Parks will share updates as soon as they are available.
