Tryout Information
2026 Junior Lifeguard Tryout Dates:
Tryouts will be conducted on Mondays (The first day of the session). June 22, July 7, July 14, July 21
Please arrive at 8am to check-in.
Participants must be registered in a session prior to arriving for tryouts.
Physical Events
1. 100 yard open water swim demonstrating proficient freestyle stroke
2. Tread water for 3 minutes (or survival float)
3. 10 yard underwater swim
All participants must demonstrate successful completion of the tryout before they are admitted into the Jr. Lifeguard Program.
The purpose of junior lifeguard tryouts is to test participants swimming skills and their comfort in an open water environment. This is not a competitive or timed tryout, but is a method for State Parks lifeguards to evaluate each participants aquatic ability. State Parks Lifeguards will be on site for aquatic safety supervision.
Note:
- While some participants are excellent pool swimmers, swimming in open water can be intimidating. Participants are encouraged to practice open water swimming for the tryout.
- If a participant is unable to pass the tryout, their tuition will be refunded in full and the seat will be opened to someone on the waitlist. We will email members of the waitlist to arrange tryouts, as needed.
- Failure to attend a tryout date will result in your child’s registration being canceled and refunded with a $50 cancellation fee
You can register your child by clicking on the link above. More information on registration can be found on the 'REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS' on the upper right hand side of this webpage.
