SCA 2008 Archaeology Month Poster
Every year Archaeology Month encourages everyone to learn more about the archaeology and history of the state, and to preserve California's rich cultural heritage. The 2008 Archaeology Month poster featured a new book, the most recent synthesis of the last two decades of archaeological research, titled California Prehistory: Colonization, Culture and Complexity by AltaMira Press (2007). This new prehistory book reviews California's diverse history and prehistory which began no less than 12,000 years ago when the first of several waves of people arrived and settled here. Our collective past has a tradition of study that stretches back to the arrival of the first Europeans and continues today encompassing a wide array of academic and government institutions, cultural resource management firms and grass roots advocational groups and societies.
