Border Field State Parks Celebrates 50th Anniversary

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. – California State Parks is commemorating the 50th anniversary of Border Field State Park with events on Monument Mesa and at the park entrance from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021. In partnership with park partners, the department will host a series of interpretive booths throughout the park including the launch of a new podcast series and an app with a self-guided tour about the stories from the first people of this area, the Kumeyaay.

California State Parks Reminds Visitors to Preserve Historic Sites at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area

FOLSOM, Calif. – California State Parks is urging visitors to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) to help protect historic resources by not handling, removing, or destroying artifacts or ruins along the lakebed. Artifacts once belonging to immigrants seeking fortune along the American River are now exposed due to historic low-water levels. These sites and artifacts are protected by both federal and state laws that prohibit disturbing the sites in any way, including removing or relocating artifacts.

Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park Receives IEEE Milestone Plaque

FOLSOM, Calif. –  Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park is being honored by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), recognizing it as an IEEE Milestone location.  On Tuesday, July 13, at 10 a.m., representatives from IEEE will conduct the dedication ceremony and unveil the Milestone plaque for the Folsom Powerhouse’s contributions to the field of electrical engineering.

California State Parks Launches Mobile App, Making It Easier to Connect Visitors to Nation’s Largest State Park System

California State Parks is proud to announce the availability of a new mobile app that will make it easier for visitors to connect with nature and enhance access for all to the nation’s largest state park system. Powered by OuterSpatial, the mobile app is free and provides visitors with real-time updates about on-the-ground conditions and access to a library of park and trail information, including directions to parks, interactive maps, visitor guidelines, park brochures, points of interest, events and more.

California State Parks Launches New Outdoor Equity Grants Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks today announced the creation of a new outdoor equity grant program that advances the Governor and First Partner’s commitment to expanding outdoor access for all. The $19 million in funding will go toward transportation, program operations, staffing and other costs that traditionally present barriers for historically underserved urban and rural communities throughout California.

Division of Boating and Waterways Encourages Boaters to Avoid Alcohol this Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks, its Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) and more than 40 law enforcement entities across California will be participating in a nationwide boating under the influence effort (BUI) for the Fourth of July holiday. Dubbed “Operation Dry Water”, law enforcement entities will increase patrols and/or carry out BUI checkpoints on this holiday known for being one of the deadliest holidays for recreational boating accidents.
