Division of Boating and Waterways Provides $18.8 Million in Grants to Keep California’s Waterways Clean and Safe

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways(DBW) has awarded $18.8 million to public entities to provide clean and safe waterways for California’s recreational community. Funding will be used to prevent the further spread of quagga and zebra mussels in freshwater bodies, discourage the illegal disposal of unwanted vessels and purchase search-and-rescue equipment for law enforcement entities.

State Parks Awards $33.5 Million in Grants for Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California State Parks’ Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division today announced $33.5 million in grants to further provide environmentally friendly and safe off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation opportunities for Californians. One hundred local and federal agencies, districts, and nonprofit organizations were awarded funding for 146 projects that help maintain OHV trails and/or for motorized access to non-motorized recreation, educate the public on responsible recreation, protect wildlife and property including natural and cultural resources, and restore/repair habitat damaged from illegal or legal OHV use.

California State Parks Announces Application Period for the Outdoor Equity Grants Program – Round Two

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks today announced the second application period for the Outdoor Equity Grants Program (OEP), which offers $50 million in grant funding for nature-based outdoor programs. The funding helps establish hubs for local activities and trips to natural areas for underserved communities. The program also empowers youth and families with outdoor leadership education, career pathways, environmental justice engagement and access to nature. The application deadline for this competitive statewide program is Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023.

California State Parks Announces New Nationwide Federal Grant Funding Opportunity for Land Acquisition Near Military Installations

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks today announced a new competitive grant program that will provide up to $80 million nationwide to fund acquisition of land adjacent to military installations that will serve as an encroachment buffer and enhance public outdoor recreation opportunities. The grant program is funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) + Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) program. Public entities can submit applications for projects that meet the combined goals of acquisition or for combination (acquisition and development) projects to create outdoor parks and recreation areas near military installations. 

California State Parks Announces $2.8 Million in Grants to Protect, Restore and Enhance Wildlife Habitats

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks today announced the selection of 12 local park projects that will receive grants totaling $2.8 million from the California Habitat Conservation Fund Grant Program. This competitive program, funded by the California Wildlife Protection Act of 1990 (Proposition 117), aids local agencies for the protection, restoration and enhancement of wildlife habitat to maintain California’s quality of life.

California State Parks Announces $4.68 Million in Grant Recommendations for Local Recreational Trail Projects

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In support of expanding recreational opportunities to California’s communities, California State Parks has recommended $4.68 million in federal grant funding for seven local non-motorized trail projects. Cities such as Glendale, Napa and Riverside applied for the funding in hopes to improve the quality of life for their communities by enhancing access to the outdoors.

California State Parks Launches New Outdoor Equity Grants Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks today announced the creation of a new outdoor equity grant program that advances the Governor and First Partner’s commitment to expanding outdoor access for all. The $19 million in funding will go toward transportation, program operations, staffing and other costs that traditionally present barriers for historically underserved urban and rural communities throughout California.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Parks is seeking public feedback on draft guidelines for $19 million in outdoor program grants to create new or expand access to outdoor programs in underserved communities. Input from the public will help State Parks establish a new grant program - the Outdoor Equity Grant Program - in support of providing equitable access to all Californians.
