Old Town San Diego State Historic Park Celebrates Fourth of July the Old-Fashioned Way

Jump back in time to celebrate an 1800s-style Independence Day with historic games, hands-on activities, and more
SAN DIEGO — Celebrate the Fourth of July with an old-timey twist at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park (SHP) this year. Travel back in time to celebrate Independence Day as early San Diego residents did in the 1800s, with free 19th-century games, fun interactive activities, live music, and more. Old Town San Diego SHP, with the support of the Boosters of Old Town, is proud to offer this free event for adults, and children of all ages.
WHAT: Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration
WHEN: Friday, July 4, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
WHERE: Old Town San Diego SHP is located on San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street in San Diego, next to the Old Town Transit Center, with Coaster, Trolley, and
MTS bus service. Free parking is available at the CalTransheadquarters, just two blocks from the park at 2994 Sunset Street.
The event will kick off with a flag-raising ceremony presented by scouts from the San Diego Imperial Council, followed by live music from Billy Lee and the Swamp Critters. Visitors can try their hand at classic 19th-century games such as wheelbarrow races, tug of war, and graces or get creative at hands-on art stations including pioneer dolls and bracelets spelling out their name in Morse code. Be sure to stick around for the 2nd annual watermelon eating competition (open to ages 8+) and the Community Quilt Raffle.
This celebration has become a beloved annual tradition for many families, and allows visitors to immerse themselves in and appreciate early San Diego life.

Please Note: Dogs are allowed on leash in outdoor areas withinthe historic park, but not inside museums or buildings. Service animals are welcome per California State Parks' Service Animals Policy.
