The Hearst Beach pier at San Simeon Cove will reopen to the public today, Feb. 21, following five months of repairs. The $3.6 million project was awarded to Cushman Contracting Corporation in Goleta. Repairs consisted of:

  • Replacing missing or deteriorated pier piles with fiberglass-reinforced polymer pipe piles
  • Replacing damaged pile caps
  • Replacing missing or damaged bracing
  • Replacing damaged stringers and blocking
  • Installing all new deck boards, curbs and handrails
  • Installing a new waterline with wharf hydrants on the pier

“I am pleased that this very popular landmark has been repaired ahead of schedule and will reopen to the public this Friday, just before our busy spring break season gets underway,” said Dan Falat, San Luis Obispo Coast District Superintendent.
