Overview
Sugar Pine Point State Park, also known as Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point SP, contains nearly 2 miles of lake frontage and dense forests of pine, fir, aspen and juniper. Another attraction is the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, a summer home built in 1903 for prominent financier Isaias W. Hellman. The home is open by guided tour only from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A wheelchair-accessible ramp provides accessibility to the first floor. The park is located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, 10 miles south of Tahoe City on Highway 89. Camping
General Creek Campground: has 8 accessible campsites. Each site has parking, a cooking facility, water, trash bin, and a tent pad. Six combination restroom/shower buildings in the campground are accessible. Routes of travel from campsites to restrooms are accessible.The campfire center is accessible. Van accessible parking is available at the campfire center. Routes of travel to the campfire center are accessible.
Picnic Area
Nature Center Picnic Area: Accessible picnic sites, restrooms, and parking are available.Picnic/Day-Use Area: Twenty lakefront picnic sites are available. These sites are accessible via a paved trail that has slopes less than 10% with level resting areas. Some people with mobility disabilities may need assistance to reach these sites. Accessible parking is nearby.
Trails
The Lakefront Interpretive Trail aka Water Baby Trail is an ‘out-and-back’ accessible trail that is 0.40 miles each way along the shore of Lake Tahoe. The trail can be accessed from the western most parking lot where there are also accessible restrooms. The surface is asphalt. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes with intermittent sections between 5% to 8%. An accessible pier that juts out into Lake Tahoe is located at the northern end of this trail.The West Shore Bike Trail has 1.03 mile of accessible trail located north and south of the entrance road into the park, along highway 89. The trail is constructed of asphalt. Trail accessibility terminates approximately 0.25 mile north of the park entrance road and approximately 0.75 mile to the south of the park entrance road.
The Campground Trail is an ‘out-and-back’ accessible trail that is 0.85 miles each way from the West Shore Bike Trail near highway 89 through the General Creek Campground. The trail length includes 3 spurs to campground facilities. The surface is constructed of asphalt. The trail is generally flat at less than 5% slopes. Accessible parking and restrooms are located at several locations throughout the campground.

Exhibits/Programs
A virtual tour station is located inside the Nature Center. This large screen interactive program permits visitors to view and listen to live audio tours as they take place inside the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion. The program also provides 360 degree views of the grounds around the mansion and exhibit areas that may not be accessible to people with limited mobility. Assistive listening devices are available upon request. |
