Emma Wood State Beach – North Beach will be fully closed to camping and day use from August 25, 2025 through May 2026. This closure is to facilitate two consecutive construction projects.
In the first project, State Parks will repair a segment of the park entrance road significantly damaged by high tide events. This project is expected to begin August 25, 2025 and be completed in January 2026.
In the second project, CalTrans will remove and replace the HWY 1 bridge that runs adjacent to Emma Wood State Beach – North Beach. The CalTrans Project is expected to begin in January 2026 and be completed in May 2026.
Provided projects remain on schedule, the anticipated date when day use will reopen is approximately June 2026. During this initial reopening, intermittent traffic control will be in place through December 2027.
Camping may reopen later, with no anticipated deadline. There are remaining additional projects that are still in early design phases which are still preventing the campground from opening.
