Boating
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta offers boaters more than 1,000 miles of navigable waterways. Brannan Island is located between the two major river system, the Sacramento and San Joaquin, and gives easy access to a huge area of the Delta. A ten lane launch ramp is open from sunrise to sunset and offers restrooms, hot coin-operated showers, a pay phone, picnic area, and a safe, well-lighted area to park vehicles and boat trailers while you are on the water. One launch ramp is wheelchair accessible. Launch fees are $18.00 per day, including parking.
Windsurfing
The sport of windsurfing began in the 1970's and has grown in popularity. The Delta is a great place to windsurf because thermals are created by an atmospheric pressure difference between San Francisco Bay and the Central Valley. This difference causes the wind to blow steadily during the summer. Some of the popular windsurfing areas on the Sacramento River are Windy Cove, the Powerlines, and Sherman Island Access Area. During the summer months, water temperatures are in the 70's and air temperatures range from the high 80's into the mid 90's, making windsurfing appealing.
Canoe Tours
Previously, park staff and volunteers led guided tours of the nearby Delta waterways. While canoe tours are currently on-hold, park staff are working to resume operations. Please check back later for updates on canoe tours.
