Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is a special park due to its diverse recreational opportunities, and in recent years has become a very popular destination in the region with extremely high visitation. Based on the increasing visitation and Special Event demand, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is not accepting Special Event Permit applications for new events occurring between February 1st and September 7th, 2026. We understand that this may affect plans to host an event at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, however this is a necessary step to address the impacts of increased demand on park resources, staffing, and the visitor use experience in order to maintain a sustainable program. Special Event applications for event dates after September 7th, 2026 may be submitted.
Please be aware a State Fire Marshal Permit may be required based on the scale of the event and the equipment used. Fire and life safety requirements are applicable to any exhibit space, booth, trailer, or tent that is to be used as a part of a special event. Use of a generator as a part of an event will also trigger the need for a permit. Applicants are responsible for all fees associated with obtaining a State Fire Marshal Permit and any subsequent visit by a Fire Marshal to an event, which is randomly selected by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and cannot be predetermined.
Additional information regarding State Fire Marshall regulations and requirements can be found on the Special Events dropdown menu on this webpage. Office of the State Fire Marshal – Special Events
