Wells Fargo Stagecoach Number 251
In 1867, Wells Fargo & Co. ordered 30 new coaches from Abbot-Downing & Co. –the largest order in the company’s history. Number 251 was one of them and was part of the Wells Fargo Overland Mail Route fleet. After serving on the Great Plains, it shuttled among different owners, coming to rest at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, Sacramento.
In the 1960s, Wells Fargo Bank had it restored, and it is now on display in the Seeley Stables.
