California State Parks Celebrates 75 Years of Lifeguard Service with Multi-Day Event

HUNTINGTON BEACH — California State Parks, in partnership with the California State Lifeguard Association, is proud to celebrate 75 years of lifeguard service with a three-day event at Huntington State Beach from Aug. 3-5. The celebration, the first and largest of its kind in the history of the association, will honor the brave lifeguards who have stood watch on the shores of California’s oceanside, lakes and rivers to protect visitors and save lives for generations.

Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area Reopens Following Lake Fire

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY — California State Parks today announced the reopening of Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) following a nearly month-long closure caused by the Lake Fire in late June. Visitors can now fully access the park via State Route (SR) 138, which was closed due to fire damage, and the main entrance, both of which have reopened. The highway will be subject to one-way traffic control on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. while Caltrans continues to repair the roadway.

California State Parks Begins Debris Cleanup at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park

CHICO - California State Parks is beginning the cleanup phase at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park. Starting this week, a contractor will clear debris around the historic mansion that was severely damaged in an arson fire on Dec. 11, 2024. Work will include removing all fire-damaged debris around the perimeter of the main historic brick structure.

Division of Boating and Waterways Encourages Boaters to Boat Sober this Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

SACRAMENTO – California State Parks’ Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is urging all boaters to boat sober this coming Fourth of July holiday weekend. DBW and local law enforcement agencies will be participating in Operation Dry Water from July 4-6, 2025, a nationwide initiative to reduce boating under the influence (BUI) and to promote safe boating practices.
