Big Basin A Winter Walk Through the Redwoods
10:30 AM - 1:30 PM
This winter nature walk follows North Escape Road, a gentle out-and-back through the recovering redwood forest. Towering trunks rise into mist, creating a forest that feels cool, fresh, and peaceful. Our slower pace will reveal the forest's quieter intricacies -- fungi tucked into fallen wood, dew droplets clinging to needles, and the echo of birdsong moving between the trees.
With fewer visitors in winter, this relaxed 3-mile walk offers a peaceful immersion into Big Basin Redwoods State Park and an opportunity to experience its enduring presence in a quieter season. Meet docents Karen DeMello and Liza Coe at the temporary visitor center in the main parking lot.
Participation is free, however, a $10 vehicle day-use fee will be charged upon arrival, or you can reserve a parking spot by clicking here. Please plan to meet at the temporary visitor center area located next to the restrooms.. Bring your own water or purchase water from Parking Kiosk as there is no running water, electricity or cell service at Big Basin!
