Guided Hike: An Adventure on Steep Ravine
Starts at 9am at the White Gate Trailhead on Panoramic Highway
Join State Park Interpreter Hillary on a moderate to strenuous hike that follows a popular route including one of Mt Tam's most iconic trails: Steep Ravine.
Meeting location: White Gate parking area on Panoramic Highway (see parking symbol circled in white in map image below) (please park perpendicular to the road to maximize parking capacity)
Hike description: Moderate to strenuous loop hike of about 4 miles that has about 1000 feet total elevation gain. The hike begins with a jaunt downhill to pick up the Steep Ravine Trail. Then we'll make the climb up the aptly named trail, crossing multiple bridges over Webb Creek and ascending the iconic 10-foot ladder. We'll have a restroom and snack break at Pantoll before taking a mostly easier hike back to White Gate via Old Mine and Dipsea trails. Estimated duration is about 3.5 hours, including break time and photo time.
Additional information: Weather conditions may be variable and trails are rugged in spots. Dress in layers and wear suitable footwear. Bring water and snacks. Poison oak and ticks may be present along the trails. Pets other than service animals are not allowed on these trails. There are no restrooms at the trailhead, but there are at a waypoint.
