Central Coast Good Fire Fair

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is hosting the second annual Central Coast Good Fire Fair in collaboration with UC Agriculture Natural Resources Fire Network, and other partners, to highlight the use of fire as a land management tool throughout the region and its integral role in the California landscape. Fire has been used by humans to interface with the land for thousands of years, and when management practices shifted to suppression and exclusion in the mid-19th century, the structure of the landscape drastically changed. For the last few decades, there have been interdisciplinary efforts to reintegrate fire as a management tool.

This event is an opportunity to learn more about why and how fire, when used safely and intentionally, is beneficial to the land, numerous plant and animal species, and humans. Join us for a free, family-friendly event from 10 am to 3 pm at the Henry Cowell Redwoods Picnic Lot 1 (located off North Big Tree Parks Road, right turn after entrance kiosk) to witness a prescribed fire demonstration (conditions permitting), enjoy activities and crafts, and interact with multiple organizations and community groups about using fire in our coastal ecosystems!
