Columbia in the snowThe interpretation office at Columbia State Historic Park is looking for a State Park Interpreter I to join the park team to support efforts in interpretive park programing, living history, coordinating volunteers, school programs and general park operations.

This State Park Interpreter I position performs front line interpretive work at one of California's best preserved Gold Rush towns. Duties include public interpretation of Gold Rush topics, park planning and organization, historic research and development of interpretive projects for California State Parks. The position is responsible for working closely with all staff and volunteers in the park to accomplish tasks necessary to operate, protect, interpret and maintain the park unit to the highest quality standards. The State Park Interpreter I will serve as a volunteer coordinator for over 100 volunteers and may serve as a lead for seasonal aides and interns. This position will work alongside state park rangers, maintenance and local partners to coordinate interpretive operations within the park’s historic Gold Rush era buildings.

The reporting location for this position is Columbia State Historic Park in Columbia, CA. Position may work at other units in the sector as directed.    The State Park Interpreter I will work under the direction of the State Park Interpreter III of the Central Valley District. State housing is not available. 

Physical work can include working outdoors in inclement weather conditions and moving heavy doors.

The Park Maintenance Chief III provides programmatic development and on-going support for all essential District facility programs and associated processes. The PMC III will work with various classifications throughout the district to accomplish exciting construction projects and facilities maintenance in 15 park units. The District Maintenance Chief has District-wide budgetary responsibility for Ongoing Maintenance, Deferred Maintenance, Roads & Trails, Fleet, Equipment, and other project related funds.

The Administrative Officer I (AOI) provides supervision for the admin functions of the Four Rivers Sector office for all classifications. Assists with purchasing utilizing a State Procurement Card and contracts for the Four Rivers Sector staff and manages the sector’s Fiscal Program. Maintains records and files for sector operations. The AOI will offer supervisory assistance to the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor and will support with approving timesheets, create schedules, training, performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions as needed.

California State Parks Central Valley District will soon hire a park manager for Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. This position supervises a diverse team and stewards an operating railroad with over 128 years of railroad history, including historic buildings and rolling stock.

Job duties include managing facilities, visitor services, interpretation and education, and organizing special events and projects, while working closely with the nonprofit cooperating association California State Railroad Museum Foundation. This position also works with district leadership and ensures protection of cultural, natural, and recreational resources, consistency with California State Parks guidelines, and compliance with the Federal Railroad Administration.
