1/1/2026    Tule Elk SNR

First Day Tour

Celebrate the New Year by exploring the Tule Elk State Natural Reserve on a guided driving tour or "Auto Safari" led by park staff. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to view a herd of Tule Elk, an endemic California subspecies of elk. This family-friendly tour consists of a brief presentation on the history of the tule elk herd, followed by a tour of the visitor center, and a guided Auto Safari of the reserve to view the magnificent tule elk. The tour will start at 10am and last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Bring binoculars to view the wildlife at the reserve, and water, snacks, and layered clothing. Dogs are not allowed in the Reserve. The park is located at 8653 Station Road, Buttonwillow, CA 93206, 3-miles southwest of the intersection of Interstate 5 and Stockdale Highway, west of Bakersfield.
