Historic Altar Tours

Join park interpretive staff on visiting multiple altares de muertos (altars of the dead) that honor the legacy and memory of San Diego's early residents. On our journey to La Casa de Machado y Stweart, La Casa de Estudillo & the Seeley Stables, we will be exploring the cultural traditions, symbolisms and history of Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead.
During the month of October, altar tours will be held at 2 p.m. Monday and Fridays and at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Advance registration is not permited. Sign-ups must be done in person on the day-of, and are limited to 18 people. Pets will not be allowed within the museums with the exception of service animals. California State Parks Supports equal access. Prior to arrival, visitors with disabilities who need assistance should contact oldtown.sandiego@parks.ca.gov.
Altar tours are FREE and provided by California State Parks.
Altar tours begin at the front of the Robinson Rose Visitor Center located in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
