Can you imagine our beach without the S.S. Palo Alto? When her concrete hull first entered the water 99 years ago this month, no one could have imagined the strange future that lay ahead of her, and breaking apart on the shore of Monterey Bay was never part of the plan. From state-of-the-art wartime tanker to party ship to fishing platform to artificial reef, our ship’s voyage has never been ordinary. Please join us at the Seacliff Visitor Center for a 45-minute walk-and-talk with beautiful views of the bay, the beach, and “The Boat.” Event is free; day-use vehicle fee is $10. For more information, please call (831) 685-6444. Event made possible by Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and California State Parks.
