Docent Training for La Purísima Mission to be Held in January 2018
LOMPOC, CALIF.— Do you love history, teamwork, crafting, demonstrations, or meeting visitors from around the world? Consider becoming a docent at the most restored California Mission right in your own backyard! La Purísima Mission State Historic Park will be offering the 2018 Docent Training program beginning in January.
The program is an 8-week course to prepare participants for docent work in the areas of living history demonstrations, staffing the visitor center, staffing the gift shop, and other jobs working with the public or behind the scenes. The training class will cover Chumash, Spanish colonial, California mission, and Civilian Conservation Corps histories, as well as hands-on demonstrations of mission crafts.
Graduates of the course will promote to the role of docent, and then be able to participate in the many living history and youth education programs that take place at California’s most fully restored mission. Participants at least 8 years old may attend but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, if under age 18. Space is limited. If you are interested in becoming a La Purísima Mission docent, please come to the Volunteer Information Meeting to learn more about our training to see if it is right for you:
